An article in The Telegraph magazine (25th September 2021) talks about the investment pouring into the English wine industry with plans submitted last month for a further £90 million investment by just one company alone planting in Kent. The question posed is, “what will the industry look like in the next 10 years?”. The area of vineyard in the UK has nearly doubled in the last five years alone and seems set to continue. Quality is the key and the fact that top Champagne producers are planting here shows that they believe the UK has the right soils and climate. Not to mention the fact that English sparkling wines have beaten Champagnes in a number of blind tastings!

Whilst much of production centres on the southeast, we’re proud of our Gloucestershire roots. We have the soils, the slopes and the history. There were vineyards at Stonehouse listed in the Domesday Book and in the 12th century the historian William of Malmesbury said that the wine of the Vale of Gloucester was “abundant and of good quality”.
