Our English Sauvignon Blanc shines amongst Old New World Sauvignons

Woodchester Valley have scored another historic Gold Medal win for their 2018 vintage Sauvignon Blanc in the Global Sauvignon Blanc Masters competition run by the Drinks Business. Judged only by Master of Wines and wine experts, the competition is based on grape variety and tasted blind without reference to country, against entries from countries across the world including France, New Zealand and Chile. Only 10 Gold medals were awarded and this is history in the making for English Still Wines.

Following on from the Gold Medal win in the IWSC competition earlier in the year for the same wine, we are all are thrilled with this award. Founder Fiona says 'this really is a milestone for our Cotswold Vineyard which has focused on still wine production against the trend for Sparkling wines prevailing in current plantings'. Winemaker, Jeremy Mount was working in New Zealand at the Matua winery, producing Sauvignon Blanc wines before joining Woodchester Valley in 2016. When first finding out about the planting of Sauvignon Blanc he was a little sceptical, but says 'being able to make a good Sauvignon Blanc in England shows that for us here at Woodchester, with our steep sided vineyard sites and favourable climatic conditions over the last couple of years, that the future of English still wine productions is extremely bright.’
