Why Visit Painswick Rococo Garden?

Just a short drive from our vineyard lies the quintessentially Cotswolds town of Painswick. Hidden within a hidden valley behind the town is the Rococo Garden—a place that truly defies the ordinary.

Unlike the neatly manicured lawns of Victorian gardens, the Rococo style is flamboyant, fun, and theatrical. As you wander through the 18th-century grounds, you’ll stumble upon quirky pink follies, a maze to get lost in, and woodland walks that offer breathtaking views of the countryside.

The Snowdrop Spectacle: If you join us between January and March, you are in for a world-class treat. The garden is famous for having one of the largest naturalistic plantings of snowdrops in the UK. Imagine walking through carpets of white blooms—a truly magical sign that spring is on its way.

If the snowdrops come early, don’t worry there’s still plenty to see. They’re followed closely by hellebores and then finally a breathtaking daffodil display takes the garden into full spring.

 

Your Vineyard Sanctuary

After a fresh morning exploring the follies and snowdrops of Painswick, retreat to the sanctuary of the vineyard.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of returning to a warm, luxurious space after a day in the crisp country air. Our Vineyard Barns are perfect for couples, offering private terraces with sweeping views over the vines and wood-burning stoves to curl up next to with a glass of Cotswolds wine.

For larger groups or those bringing a four-legged friend (yes, the package is dog-friendly in The Retreat!), our Retreat Farmhouse offers a spacious home-from-home vibe where you can cook up a storm and crack open that Rococo hamper.

 

From Root to Glass: The Wine Experience

No visit to Woodchester Valley is complete without discovering what makes our corner of the Cotswolds so special for viticulture. Included as a highlight of your package is one of our Vineyard Tour & Wine Tasting experiences.

You will join one of our knowledgeable tour hosts for a behind-the-scenes look at the winery, learning the intricacies of the winemaking process—from the pressing of the grapes to the fermentation tanks. It is a fascinating insight into how we produce wine in a cool climate.

Following the tour, you will settle into our Tasting Room—offering views over the valley—for a tutored tasting of five of our current vintages.

Whether you are sampling the crisp, elderflower notes of our Bacchus or the toasted brioche finish of our Reserve Cuvée sparkling, you will discover the wonders of wine grown and made in the Cotswolds. It is an educational, accessible and thoroughly delicious way to spend an afternoon.
