A Week at The Retreat: A Cotswolds Farmhouse Stay This March

March in the Cotswolds carries a quiet kind of beauty. The hedgerows begin to soften, gardens hint at new colour, and there’s space to enjoy the countryside at its most peaceful.

If you’ve been considering a proper week-long Cotswolds break, The Retreat offers the chance to settle in and enjoy the rhythm of rural life.

Throughout March, we’re offering 7 nights for £1,400 (up to 4 adults) at our vineyard farmhouse, with space for up to two dogs as well. Shorter breaks are also available subject to availability.

A Vineyard Farmhouse in the Cotswolds

The Retreat is our two-bedroom luxury self-catering farmhouse in the Cotswolds, set within the grounds of Woodchester Valley Vineyard.

It’s not a hotel stay - it’s a home for the week.

With a generous kitchen, open living space and views across the valley, it’s ideal for those who enjoy cooking, reading by the fire, long breakfasts and unhurried evenings.

As a vineyard stay in the Cotswolds, it also offers something quietly distinctive - countryside views paired with the option of wine tastings and vineyard walks right on your doorstep.

The farmhouse sits next to our working winery, which is part of its charm. Occasionally in March we carry out bottling, which can bring some daytime activity. We’re always happy to discuss dates in advance to ensure your stay suits your plans.

For those wanting an extra touch of indulgence, hot tub hire is available as an optional add-on.

Cheltenham Festival & Gold Cup Week Accommodation

March also brings the renowned Cheltenham Festival, including the famous Gold Cup Week, one of the highlights of the British racing calendar.

For those attending, The Retreat makes an ideal Cheltenham Festival accommodation option - far enough from the crowds to feel calm, yet within comfortable driving distance of the racecourse.

And if racing isn’t your focus, you’ll find plenty of quieter pleasures waiting here - spring walks, historic gardens and long lunches in local pubs.

Dog Friendly Cotswolds Accommodation

We’re often asked for genuinely dog friendly accommodation in the Cotswolds, and The Retreat is perfectly suited.

Up to two dogs are welcome, and there are footpaths directly from the door through vineyard rows and into open countryside. Woodchester Park, Selsley Common and a network of valley walks are all nearby.

March is a particularly lovely time for long, bright walks followed by a relaxed afternoon indoors.

Food, Markets & Local Produce

For food lovers, this part of the Cotswolds is something of a gem.

Stroud Farmers’ Market (one of the best in the country), artisan bakeries, independent food halls and excellent local pubs are all within easy reach. The Retreat’s kitchen is fully equipped for proper cooking, whether that’s a simple supper or something more ambitious using seasonal produce.

If preferred, we can also recommend local chefs or provide details of our vineyard hampers.

Gardens, Towns & Easy Day Trips

Nearby Painswick Rococo Garden begins to stir beautifully in March, while the wider area offers easy access to:

  • Bath – Georgian architecture, independent shops and spa culture

  • Bristol – creative energy and waterside dining

  • Cirencester – Roman history and classic Cotswold charm

  • Stroud & Nailsworth – independent shops and thriving food scenes

A week allows time to explore without rushing, or to do very little at all.

A Slower Week in the Cotswolds

There’s something different about staying for seven nights. You find your favourite walk. You return to the same café. You open another bottle of wine and watch the light fade over the vines.

If you’re looking for a dog friendly Cotswolds farmhouse stay, a base for Gold Cup Week, or simply a longer countryside pause this March, The Retreat offers exactly that.

7 nights for £1,400 (up to 4 adults)
Dogs welcome (up to 2)
Optional hot tub hire available
Shorter breaks are also available subject to availability.
